Finally the wait is over, I was one of the fortunate bloggers to get an ARC of this much-anticipated book. I have to say it was well worth the wait. The collaboration of KL Grayson and BT Urruela on this Contemporary/Military romance couldn’t have been more perfect. It took the strength of both writers and created something so honest and so heart-felt it was a hard read to put down.

This book is filled with raw emotion. There was no holding back when writing what the characters were feeling. The way in which the characters expressed themselves was gut wrenching. Their emotions jumped right off the page and pierced you through the heart. At times, I felt like I was intruding on something very personal. Then reminded myself this is fiction, keep reading.

Katie and Devin were childhood best friends who became lovers. Before they were able to explore their feelings, they were torn apart by a situation that was beyond their control. For ten years they merely existed until fate and a family tragedy brought them back into each other’s lives.
This story is written in Katie and Devin’s point of view. Katie’s point of view was filled with so much emotion. This girl really got to me. I just wanted to give her a hug and tell her everything was going to be okay. She is the type of heroine I like in my books. She was strong but also had a vulnerable side. The best way to describe her is that she is like a phoenix. Despite all the disappointment and heartbreak life threw at her, she always came out on top.
Where Katie was the emotional one, Devin was the one who was grounded. It was his experiences in life and in the military and how he coped with them that made him the best person to help Katie. The characteristic that I felt helped the most was his honesty. It allowed him to show her empathy when she needed it the most and show her the love that she deserved when she was ready for it. Beautiful.

With BT as co-author, it was no surprise that the portions of the book that described Devin’s experiences in the sandbox were written in great detail. It added to the raw honesty of the book. It gave the reader a glimpse of what our soldiers overseas must do to make their situations bearable. The loss of life they must quickly come to grips with in order to carry out their orders. If you didn’t have an appreciation for our military before you will after reading this book and if you already did, it will just deepen that appreciation. Much respect goes out to all those that serve.

This story is a heart-felt at times gut wrenching love story that will have you feeling for these characters from the prologue to the last chapter. This was a collaboration made in heaven. I hope to see more from KL and BT.

Only time will tell if their love is enough to conquer life’s latest obstacle.

This is a poignant and beautifully written story of redemption and second chances. The writing is solid and flawless, with enough narration and natural dialogue to whisk you right into each scene. I lost count of how many times I teared up during pivotal moments, and I cried hard enough to alarm my husband during a particularly dramatic one. This is irrefutable proof of the power and emotion of this book’s storyline. I couldn’t turn pages fast enough to get to the end, and when I got there, a bit of sadness washed over me because I selfishly wanted to read more about these wonderful characters. Again, this is a nod to the authors’ talent. If they ever collaborate on another novel, I’ll gladly read it!
