Basically, I found Highland Avenger boring. There was a lot of tramping around in the woods as our H/h ran from her brother-in-law who was out to capture two young boys who are the heirs of his brother's estate. My chief complaint is that very little seemed to happen beyond our hero's diligent efforts to help our heroine overcome her sexual hangups. Day three and on the run, she decides to see if her now deceased husband's assessment of her sexual prowess is accurate by having sex with a relative stranger. Had this happened a bit later in the novel it would have made much more sense. Couple that with the substantial repetitiveness of the trials and insults our heroine suffered at the hand's of her husband's family and the reader is left with a novel short on action or anything else of much interest.

Bottom line: I found this novel to be a stretch of my credulity and I didn't have the patience or the interest to continue as I simply did not care about either of the main characters. The two stars are given as benefit of the doubt as I stopped at the 40% mark.

I am always happy after reading a Hannah Howell book. Her novels are bursting with life and colorful characters. I gave this book a five star rating and would recommend this book to all romantic's.
I am a devoted fan of Miss Howell . I have enjoyed her books for a long time and this story has not disappointed me.
Hanna Howell was the seconed Author I grab a hold of after I had read all of Burtress Small's books. Just like Ms. Small Hanna's books are always a great read. They are the kind of books that you read once, set it aside for a month or two & you come back & read again. Me being an artest the covers are also something that always grabs my attention...Her artest thet do her covers are incredible. This I have to say has been one of the best & the store was a grate match to it's cover.Like I said... She Never!!! Misses!!!
Love the book. It's story is additive and well versed. You can't put it down once you start reading. Can't wait to read more from this author.
Intriguing characters that ring true and keep you hoping for a great outcome which of course it produces. The interplay between characters is very satisfying as well.
I hate to admit that I'm so shallow, but one of the reasons I originally read this book was because of the gorgeous blue eyes on the man on the cover. I've read all the Hannah Howell Highlander books and have to say there's not a bad one in the batch. You have to love the characters and the story has some interesting twists. If you like historical romances, you can't go wrong.
This is a story of an emotionally abused young woman who is escaping to Scotland with her two stepsons in an effort to save their lives and their inheritance. Fate provides the three with escorts from the MacFingal family. Needless to say, Brian becomes not only her protector but also her lover and her therapist.
The story is sad and reminiscent of the plight of a number of women who remain in difficult situations because of pride or ignorance. My only wish for this story is that the author had been as descriptive about the death of the evil brother-in-law as she was about the physical abuse he inflicted upon Arianna while she was his captive. As a reader, I needed to feel the same satisfaction that Brian felt when he rescued and avenged Arianna. The brother-in-law was a truly evil man who needed killing.
There is, however, one redeeming feature - the MacFingal family--they are funny, charming and highly protective and had no intention of anyone coming into their domain, Scarglas, to harm Arianna and her stepsons. The humor they brought to the situation made a terrible situation acceptable.
